Hi everyone. For those who don't know, there is an active TTA Discord server at https://discord.gg/uXXEeG7yAc. There has been some discussion about the Eiffel Tower tournament recently and based on the discussions I am looking to introduce the following changes from next year. Please feel free to share any of your own thoughts about these changes and the tournament as a whole, or on Discord as I am open to considering other views and ideas to keep Eiffel Tower going from strength to strength.
League Size - I do not want to go down to a 7 or 8 person league as this feels too similar to other tournaments out there and too far from my initial plan. I have contemplated a 13-person league taking 6 months, but ultimately, I want annual seasons and will stick to 25 people per league. If this puts some people off then that is a price I am willing to pay to provide the type of tournament I want to bring to TTA.
Time Reserve - There are great arguments on each side here and honestly I am torn. I think as a compromise I will use a reserve of 36 hours next year. Hopefully that is enough time for people who want more, but not too much to put off those who just want to get their games done. Ultimately, I think this is a point of contention that we will never be able to satisfy everyone on.
Promotion & Relegation - I was pretty fixated on having a few people promoted and relegated between leagues because of the football structure I mentioned, and from the start thought I was making a compromise by significantly increasing the number of promotions and relegations, and also including double promotions, based on feedback received before the tournament ever launched. There have been some radically different ideas mentioned here which I hadn't even considered a possibility, so thank you for those. I don't want to complicate things too much, so I think I will go through with wolvs' idea of simply seeding people based on their Glicko rating when the tournament starts each year and do away with promotion and relegation all together. It is a Glicko rated competition, so a good performance in a lower league will likely result in a higher league placement the following year regardless.
