This is different from international and other tournaments, but in my opinion it keeps up the challenge in the game. You cannot just ignore the bot and try to defeat the human players, you need to keep an eye on its scoring, too. This way chances are higher it remains a real 4p game. The bot always scores 0 points for its player, of course.
