First great thanks for organizing/facilitating this tournament. I believe the result in Group 13 should be manually adjusted for #1 since I won the H2H against my worthy direct opponent BrentC (game 4) with whom we came on equal total points.

Hi all! Games are launched so you should shortly see your first batch. You'll either have one or two games to play in this first batch. In total you will play 5 games per season.

Seeding was difficult, I've gone by a combination of factors: performance in other tournaments (especially 2 player), TTA pulse ranking, plus my own knowledge of the player. Beyond the first 70 players or so seeding is random. The good thing about a league format is that, if there are any mistakes, players will get promoted and relegated over time to their correct level.

Any timeout players will be removed for the next season unless they explain and ask to be retained.

If anyone has clearly been placed in a group many rungs too low for their skill level, please contact me privately in-game, then if you win your group I'll ensure you are placed in a more appropriate group (there will be timeouts so that won't be difficult) in season 2.

Thanks @Firedart for organizing this tournament! I have one question: What will be the tiebreaker when two or more players have the same points at the end?

Weidenbaum No worries! Head-to-head record will be first decider (so for example, if you and DANeo finished on equal points and you beat him, you would be placed above). If there's a 3-way tie and head-to-head record doesn't help as you all beat each other, then we'll go total culture score across all games.

And how about resigns? That should count as -0.1 point, in case of tiebreak at 3 player in order to avoid giving up a game while you are loosing by 1 only.. or even winning at culture..

With this format, many ties will happen and I feel like "total culture" is not a good way to break ties after head-to-head record :

Some games are low culture, some games are high culture. Why one should be better than the other ?
Resignations are problematic for the winner (you don't get all the culture points you should)

If we want to avoid to play tiebreakers, the rule in The International after head-to-head record is better in my opinion :
"Average percentage of winner's score from all games"

An adaptation for duel could be "Percentage of the other player score" (limited to the games between the players involved in the tie or not). Maybe with a hard cap at 200% or 300% to account for resigns.

I feel like it takes care of both problems.

Martin_Pecheur Thanks, and a good point. So, equal points will be resolved by:

Head to head record
Average % of winning player's score in all games. Resignation will count as having scored 33% of the other player's score. That will mean in tie break positions it will be often worth your while to stay in the game and not resign if you think you'll get a percentage of the other player's score greater than 33%.
