We are all set to go! Stage 1 will be launched this Friday, with 234 players assigned to 26 groups of 9. Your eight 2p games (against everyone else in the group) will be divided into 4 batches, which are launched weekly on Fridays. Best of luck in the tournament!

If my opponent timed out can I just also abandon the game? Or do I need to finish against the AI?

ChipsAhoya According to the rules, abandoning a game will score you -1 point as well, so you may still need to finish the game.

ChipsAhoya To you and all other players whose opponent(s) becomes an AI: that particular player might come back in games started later, so an auto-win might not be so fair for either other players in your group or players in other groups. Try to finish the game as usual, and hope you'll understand us!

SnailZane it’s okay if they’re not kicked out immediately or whatever and come back, but abandoning a game should be an auto-loss for that game.

ChipsAhoya Hi, unfortunately, it's part of CGE's game design that your results are unaffected by whether your opponent(s) abandon. By adhering to their design, we make rules simpler to evaluate, and more importantly, consistent across 2/3/4p games. I know it feels strange to finish an 2p game when your opponent has become an AI, but please still do so, and you'll probably win anyway as the AI is much weaker than experienced players.

Hi everyone,
We've added a small clarification to the tie-breaking rules. Specifically, with respect to the calculation of percentages in rule (2), a resigned or abandoned game counts as 0%. (In case of resignation, unfortunately, we cannot give a more reasonable percentage.)
We recommend players to familiarize themselves with the tie-breaking rules, which are of particular significance in Stage 1 where all games are 2p. Thanks for your attention!

Hi,

I have two questions:

What does it mean the following sentence?

For ties in culture points, adjacent score values are averaged.

In group 17 buste and I are tied with 15 points each at 3rd place, but the table shows buste as 3rd and me as 4th even though I won the game between he and me. I understand that since I won that match, I should be 3rd. Am I wrong? Is the tie-breaking criteria not reflected here?

For ties in culture points, adjacent score values are averaged.

This means that if you tie with somebody else in a specific game, your gain of tournament score is averaged over the tie's span. For example, if two players tie for the 1st place in a 4P game, each scores (6+3)/2 = 4.5 points.

And for your second question, yes, for ties in tournament scores we will strictly adhere to the stated tie-breaking rules, although they are not reflected on this website. You will rank 3rd in Group 17. (I don't even know how the game website breaks ties by default! 🙂) We will probably make an annoucement about the tie-breaking results after each stage finishes.

@SnailZane In Group 22 we have 3 players with 15 points at the end (from 2nd to 4th place). From the tournament description seems like no tie breakers are here or maybe I just misunderstood something? How it will be resolved? head to head (unlikely, because this tiebreaker is mentioned only for 2 players tie). Additional games/-s?
Would appreciate some clarification here 🙂

eNroamer Lothar "If (1) is inconclusive" means that, for a tie of 3 or more players, rule (2) is applied. (We are editing the tie-breaking rules in order to make this clearer.) For example, in Group 22, we compare each player’s average percentage of winner’s culture points within the current stage:

eNroamer (1+1+1+1+1+79/138+116/151+95/100)/8=91.13%
Magesolo (1+1+1+1+1+0/67+0/36+104/107)/8=74.65%
Lothar (1+1+1+1+1+0/59+155/207+0/90)/8=71.86%

We have no choice but to count abandoned or resigned games as 0%, which is part of the reason why we encourage players to prefer finishing a game to resigning. So sorry for all the misunderstandings.

I agree with eNroamer that the tie break rules for 3 teams in 2P format are not clear in the rules. I do think head to head to can be used, but I’m not sure if head to head record or points is meant. I’ve provided both cases below. I guess I’m making my own case here, but I also support extra games if it makes sense.

My calculations show it as Amorin > CrushU > guppyfry, but I would like someone to check my math, of course. 🙂

CrushU Hi, I can confirm for Group 9 that tie-breaker rule (2) is to be applied and that I got the same numbers as you did. (More generally we compare the average percentage across all games, e.g. CrushU (5 + 2.5287...) / 8 ≈ 94.11%. But for 2p stages it mostly makes no difference.)
