Jorrig Oh interesting. I will reconsider my plan to change. You are right in that some players can be promoted faster, I just wasn't sure how fast that can be if there are quite a lot of groups and I don't double the ranks. In Season 2 I let the new players with best Glicko ratings to fill in missing seats and let them skip the New Groups. In Season 3, instead I let the New Group winners fill in the missing seats, and for new players I sorted by Glicko rating and use a snake draft format to create the New Groups A-H. But you are correct that I can arbitrarily let players cut the line a lot based on performance, and would let higher Glicko rating players cut the line as well. I think I should see for a while how that works out.

fugg I think that in these semi-serious tournaments all that counts is matching players with similarly skilled other players and provide them with some feed of challenging games. As of yet, no one has complained playing in the Orchestra. 🙂

Noash I'm sorry this happened to you. This format is not for everyone, and not desired by everyone. I think you may have been unlucky to have everyone in your group to have a different time zone. You are correct in that I should warn about this possibility.

I will wait until all games from Batch 1 are resolved before starting Batch 3 games. There are lots of games going on because of World Championship.

scipio238 i like the suggestion! I think I read on discord fast async is kind of bad for Glicko, because the risk of timeouts can impact Glicko unexpectedly. And the high demand of 10 games. I originally designed this for a small group, just my 5 friends and I, and I opened to the public for practice purposes. There wasn't an exclusive 4p tourney at the time. Maybe an official 4p Glicko tourney could be considered separately, I don't care if I host or not and could close this one.
