Not a doubles competition. That would be against the spirit of play. Should this happen, please let me know as I'll change the format next year.

Thanks, Jorrig for bringing up the doubles competition issue. The next stage will see the winners in groups 1 and 2 joined by second places in groups 3 and 4, winners of groups 3 and 4 joined by second places in groups 1 and 2 and so on. This should fix the issue as the tournament is NOT a doubles competition.

I don't think anyone played it as a Doubles competition.
Another thought: Have you considered to just throw everybody in one group and have them play exactly one game each? If you can seed the games manually, the effort should be the same. The advantage would be that you can easily see all games at one glance instead of clicking through each group.

Hope not. If they did, my bad I allowed that. I don't have a lot of experience organising tournaments on the platform but I don't think you can't fit more than 26 or 28 players (not sure off the top of my head) in a group. You also can't arrange the fixtures manually, you can only decide on how many games the players play... I'll see if I can put up an excel spreadsheet the way Pajada does/did. Maybe for the next open.

Diogenes I've been playing around with this for some private "tournaments". You can set the members of the group individually, the dropdown is just suggested values for a certain kind of tournament. If you change that to "Custom" you can set it to 1 group, 128 players, everybody plays 1 4p game. You could set scoring to 40-30-15-0. 🙂 You can set seeding to "manual" and assign players to their games. I haven't done that part yet, but if it does what it says it should allow you to do as I suggested. Plus, you could include all stages in one tournament by just repeating that procedure for each round. Then you could also change the seeding to "ranking" or "random" and save that manual effort of game setup. Everybody has exactly one game, you'd just lose the seeding by previous results. Then you'd have all games of that round in one big view and you can just invite the upper half of the league table to the next stage.

That's all good but this tournament has to be a public tournament as it is open to anybody who wants to enter...

Diogenes Sure, anybody can join, you just do the seeding manually. Or you leave it to random. Or is it that public tournaments are set up differently than private ones?
I might think about setting up a Swiss Open tournament, then I can tell you if it works. 🙂

I think it might be. I don't mind this format, but I'll see what you set up and if it makes more sense then I'll adopt/adapt it. Looking forward to the Swiss open!

Round of 16 is now launched. Congrats to all qualifiers.
In an unexpected turn of events, the first 3 seeds have been eliminated before reaching the final 32!! In tennis terms, this would mean Nadal, Djoko and Federer are out of contention!

Special congrats to: danodan, Majondor and TimtheGreat - all under level 30 experience. Well done guys/gals!

After this round, I'll set up a new tournament for the remaining 16.

I’m enjoying these recap notes, thanks for writing them. I’m also curious as to how you came up with the seeding? Is it just level in the app, or did you refer to other tournament performances?
